Malaysian Financial Planner of the Year Award 2016 Launched

The second edition of Malaysian Financial Planner of the Year Award 2016 (MFPYA) was launched on 1 February to boost the level of professionalism in the Malaysian financial planning industry, and will eventually lead to the strengthening of the capital market.

MFYPA is an initiative by FPAM in collaboration with IBFIM and Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC), Malaysian Financial Planners & Advisers Association (MFPAA) and Association of Financial Advisers (AFA).

The competition is open to all Malaysian Licensed Financial Planners with a recognised designation e.g., CFP®, RFP, IFP, ChFC®, which is current and who is in good standing with a financial planning or other professional body or association e.g., FPAM, AFA, MFPC, MFPAA, recognised by the regulators. The top 3 financial planners in Malaysia will be recognised and receive cash awards with the 1st place submission being guaranteed an automatic entry into the 2016 PlanPlus Global Financial Planning Awards regional competition for Asia.

Interested licensed financial planners must submit a real client financial plan (with their client’s permission) to be reviewed by a panel of qualified judges. Each plan will be judged based on the specific actions that were recommended to achieve the client’s specific goals and objectives as well as enhance the client’s overall well-being. It is important that participants work with their clients on a fiduciary basis, which means recommending only solutions that are in the best interest of their clients.

“The award remains one of its kind in Malaysia and we are happy to have our partner and the other financial planning and adviser associations supporting the competition this year,” said Linnet Lee, CEO of FPAM. “The exposure and recognition received by the winners in the Global event has led us to recognise that we need to continue with MFPYA for the second year. We have so many financial planners in Malaysia and it’s important that we provide them with the opportunity to compete locally and showcase their talents. Not only will the winners earn respect and recognition amongst their peers, they will also become better prepared to move on compete on a global scale. We are also happy to have PlanPlus who partners as the external adjudicator for the competition,” Lee added.
