FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), and the world’s largest express transportation company, has launched QR Pay, a new payment option for customers in Malaysia. Currently, this new feature has been made available for customers at selected locations.
Supplementing existing online payment methods (such as FedEx Billing Online), QR Pay will now enable customers to pay for their shipments on the go by just scanning the QR code on their invoices using their smartphones. With a simple scan, QR Pay will direct customers to the payment page automatically, where they can use credit cards and other alternative payment options to make payments quickly, conveniently and securely.
“This new service will provide ease of use for our customers to make payments, ultimately enhancing the customer experience. As Malaysia embraces mobile technology – with a mobile penetration of 146% and more than 70% of Malaysians having smartphones – it is our aim to continue providing services that not only meet the needs of our customers but also keep up with the latest technological trends that shape how we do business,” said S.C. “Our customers are increasingly on the go, conducting business, making contacts, and seeking new opportunities all at the touch of a smartphone screen, so it’s appropriate to also enable them to manage their logistic needs and payments conveniently on the same device, with just as much ease,” added Chong.
A recent research survey commissioned by FedEx Express revealed that 87% of Malaysian SMEs now use mobile-commerce platforms while 90% of SMEs utilize mobile payment services, demonstrating how mobile devices have become an integral part of how local businesses manage transactions. The launch of QR Pay follows in the wake of this current wave of mobile-commerce adoption, with the goal of improving the efficiency with mobile payment processes.
QR Pay is currently available in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Philippines and Thailand, and will soon be expanded to other markets in Asia-Pacific.
